Carrots over chips, my Social-media break, and behaviour change
I was talking with one of my online 1:1 women the other day and she asked how my social-media break is going…
Here’s the story in hindsight 10 days later:
I didn’t even sit on it long enough to allow my rational mind to come into play.
When I decided to announce a 5-week social media break, it was like my hands picked up my iPhone and started typing out a post.
Of course the idea was brewing in my subconscious.
That deep programming inside your brain and tissues.
That intuitive, unspoken knowing.
Learning and knowing about the subconscious brain is interesting stuff when it comes to helping people go through behavior change.
In my early days, I used to coach my clients on keeping themselves motivated to workout, and making healthy swaps like choosing carrots instead of chips… now I know, that will only take us SO far.
Because of the subconscious beliefs.
For anyone who has “fallen off the wagon” we know that the underlying causes of falling off are not because you lack willpower.
It’s not about the food.
It’s not about the booze.
It’s not about the money.
Or any other external reason.
It’s about the underlying set of programming.
Some authors call them limiting beliefs.
Some call them past trauma.
This programming keeps us in our patterns.
Even our OCD cleanliness is from a subconscious set of stories.
Distraction. Control. Safety.
Super interesting when it comes to behavior change.
So as I was saying about my Social-media break - the subconscious knew that I am on that Instagram thing a lot and in order for me to release some of my patterns that are limiting me from expansion - I need to take space away from that Instagram thing.
It’s allowed me to experience an unexplainable amount of:
Peace.
Presence.
Excitement to receive an email, text, and phone call from friends and family.
Capacity to plan my day and use my time extremely intentionally.
Gratitude for each client's healing journey, and being a part of it.
It’s been 10 days, I have 25 more social media-free days.
I will be sure to write another update then.
Curious if this email sparked any thoughts for you.
I’m always here to enjoy receiving your stories and takeaways.
BTW - these topics are not directly related to healing and fitness but they do help us gain forward awareness and clarity to our patterns of holding hence
Stay cozy!
XO
